- Nate Geraci criticized the difference between their current statement and past actions
The CLARITY Act failed to pass the Senate on September 15, but lawmakers are already looking for a way forward. Seven Senate Democrats have now expressed their support to restart bipartisan efforts to move the crypto bill ahead.
CLARITY Act faces fresh push from Democrats
Fox Business journalist Eleanor Terrett shared an X post today, highlighting the latest update within the CLARITY Act. According to the post, seven Democratic senators have confirmed that they are not giving up on the market structure bill. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Angela Alsobrooks, Cory Booker, Catherine Cortez Masto, Ruben Gallego, Mark Warner, and Raphael Warnock stated that they remain committed to getting the bill passed.
🚨NEW: A group of seven Senate Democrats, including @gillibrandny, @MarkWarner, @SenRubenGallego and @Sen_Alsobrooks, say they are “committed to working in a bipartisan fashion” to pass the Clarity Act.

Notably, the move comes after the Senate failed to pass the CLARITY during the key vote on September 15. As CoinCodex reported, the bill didn’t secure the required 60 votes to move forward. Instead, it received only 49 votes in favor.
This marked a major setback for the much-awaited CLARITY Act. But the latest statement suggests that the efforts to pass the crypto bill haven’t completely ended. The senators highlighted the two years of work that Democrats have put into developing a clear crypto regulation, while also protecting consumers. They noted,
“This week was a setback, but not the end of that important work. We remain committed to working in a bipartisan fashion to get this legislation passed.”
Nate Geraci questions bipartisan push
However, the latest response from the Democratic Senators has drawn criticism from crypto industry observers like Nate Geraci. He reportedly argued that the senators’ statement is only a commitment on paper, as their past actions on crypto have raised questions about how seriously they support the industry. In an X post today, he wrote,
“Remember, previous administration tried to kill crypto. There’s a legit case to be made that had Harris been elected in 2024, the crypto industry might be on life support (or worse) right now. There was no “working in a bipartisan fashion” on crypto during Biden admin. It was purely anti-crypto & regulation by enforcement. Which obviously had nothing to do w/ Trump’s “ethics” (the current cover story).”
Importantly, Geraci pointed to the Biden administration’s approach to the crypto industry. He added that the government relied heavily on regulation by enforcement rather than bipartisan cooperation. Geraci also stated that the current setback of the CLARITY Act should not be viewed as a result of President Donald Trump’s ethics concerns.
What to expect next?
Significantly, the latest developments suggest that the CLARITY Act could still be expected to move forward despite the recent challenges. As the Democratic senators are calling for bipartisan cooperation, the next step could be renewed discussions on the crypto bill.
At the same time, the bill is still facing challenges. It does not have enough support to move through the Senate. Only if the lawmakers address and resolve the existing concerns and disagreements, the bill could advance further.
