Solo Bitcoin Miner Bags $200K After Mining One Block in 8 Hours

Key highlights:

  • A lone Bitcoin miner mined BTC block 957,382 with a $150 Bitaxe device
  • The miner earned around $200,000 in rewards

A solo Bitcoin miner has secured a small fortune despite using a very modest mining setup costing only about $150. The miner earned 3.125 BTC (around $200,000 BTC) after solo mining a Bitcoin block with a small Bitaxe

Notably, Bitaxe Gamma is a small, open-source Bitcoin miner powered by a single BM1370 chip. The chip is also used in Bitmain’s much larger Antminer S21 Pro mining machines. Although it is small, it can deliver around 1.2 TH/s, which makes it a popular choice among solo miners.

The miner’s reward included the standard 3.125 BTC, along with about 0.0132 BTC in transaction fees. As noted by Public Pool, this miner is the second to win Bitcoin rewards using a single Bitaxe device through the platform.

How Bitaxe defies odds?

The mining setup was notably small, with the Bitaxe generating an average hash rate of 995.2 gigahashes per second (GH/s), which is just under 1 terahash per second (TH/s). This mining rig is extremely small when compared to large Bitcoin mining companies, which operate thousands of powerful machines. These companies operate with a combined hash rate measured in exahashes per second (EH/s).

This contrast highlights the challenge a lone miner with a small operating device faces when trying to find a Bitcoin block. Sources say that such a miner would discover a BTC block once in 18,000 years. But here, the Bitaxe miner managed to defeat the odds.

Solo Bitcoin mining surges, but wins remain rare

Over the past 12 months, solo Bitcoin miners have mined about 24 blocks. This represents a substantial increase of 41% from the previous year. In 2026 alone, the miners successfully mined 12 blocks. In February 2026, a solo miner gained $200,000 as he mined a block using rented hash power. In April, another miner used CKPool to receive nearly $210,000. This highlights the remarkable growth of solo Bitcoin miners winning rewards.

Besides the latest news, another major Bitcoin miner who made headlines recently is the one who earned about $271,000 after mining BTC block 928,351 in December 2025. Another solo miner has also recorded a similar move in the same month, earning around $282,000.

However, it is worth noting that the success rates of similar solo Bitcoin mining are very low. Although devices like Bitaxe offer a budget-friendly way of mining Bitcoin, the chance of mining a block is very slim. Many are still running the same device for years, without ever receiving rewards.
