Key highlights:

  • Coinbase has launched an AI agent to offer users financial advice.
  • The company disclosed that the AI agent is registered with the US securities watchdog.
  • The US-based exchange is doubling down on AI-native finance with a streak of product launches.

A look under the hood reveals a range of functionalities for the Coinbase Advisor. Right off the bat, the agent will offer users 24/7 professional portfolio guidance while offering advanced customization features.

“We registered the AI agent itself with the SEC as an investment advisor,” said Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong.

“It has your complete context on your portfolio and account history. Speak to it in plain English to take action on your account.”

According to Coinbase’s own disclosures, the advisor leans on a curated set of investment frameworks developed by portfolio managers with over 75 years of combined experience from top asset management institutions.

However, the exchange issued a disclaimer that outputs from Coinbase Advisors may be “inaccurate or incomplete,” urging users to seek additional information sources before investing.

A suite of product launches with AI at the heart

At the Coinbase System Update 2026, the company unveiled a raft of products, putting it firmly on the AI-native finance path. The company disclosed that users can bring AI agents of their choice to trade in their Coinbase portfolios, enabling them to execute sophisticated trading strategies previously inaccessible to retail investors.

Outside of trading, AI agents can pay for services and operate autonomously within spending limits and set guardrails. Given the streak of launches, Artemis CEO Jon Ma opined that “Coinbase is the winner of AI native finance,” but pundits are bracing for a wave of similar rollouts from its competitors.

Beyond AI, Coinbase announced that US users will soon have access to crypto options, leaning on the exchange’s integration with Deribit. Meanwhile, the company disclosed that it will roll out tokenized stocks for non-US customers in July while supporting share lending to earn yield and gifting functionalities.

Previously, Coinbase launched pre-IPO perps, allowing users to get exposure to private companies before they go public.

After a successful launch with SpaceX stock, Coinbase confirmed that it will add Anthropic and OpenAI to the platform ahead of the IPOs.

Armstrong previously noted that retail investors are missing out on the upside of high-growth companies, with VC firms cornering a significant chunk of the returns as a result of US investment rules.
