Zcash Gains Permissionless Trading as ZEC Pool Goes Live on THORChain

By Nynu Jamal

Key highlights:

  • THORChain has launched its ZEC liquidity pool, bringing Zcash closer to permissionless trading.
  • All THORChain nodes are now monitoring the Zcash blockchain following a recent node rotation.
  • ZEC remains volatile despite the launch, trading at $1,386 with a 0.38% daily gain.

Zcash is preparing to become available for permissionless trading through THORChain with the launch of a ZEC liquidity pool on the network. With this update, THORChain nodes can monitor the Zcash blockchain. Now, two blockchains are coming closer to full integration, with trading expected to be the next step. However, the team has warned users that limited liquidity could lead to higher slippage for early users.

THORChain launches ZEC liquidity pool

According to an X post shared by THORChain on October 2, 2026, the network has launched the ZEC liquidity pool. This major development has brought Zcash one step closer to full integration with the network. The statement read,

“The ZEC pool is now live on THORChain. The network churned and every node is watching the Zcash chain. Zcash now has a truly permissionless venue. Trading is the next step. Liquidity is shallow for now and will grow over time, so trade with caution in the early days.”

Amid this backdrop, it is worth noting that all THORChain nodes are now monitoring the Zcash blockchain following a recent node rotation. This means that the network can now track Zcash activity. At the same time, the upcoming addition of trading functionality could further expand how users interact with ZEC via THORChain. However, at this early stage, liquidity remains limited, possibly resulting in higher slippage for users.

THORChain strengthens its Zcash integration

Interestingly, the latest update builds on THORChain’s earlier work to support native Zcash features. These include UTXO handling, RPC functionality, and a ZEC price oracle. Reportedly, these upgrades allow THORChain to connect with and monitor the Zcash chain more directly. This is mainly because it creates the infrastructure needed to support ZEC within its cross-chain ecosystem.

The current development makes the integration more complete, and trading is expected to be the next step. When trading is enabled, users could gain a permissionless way to swap ZEC through THORChain alongside assets supported by the network.

But it needs to be mentioned that the integration is still in the early stages. THORChain has noted that liquidity may remain shallow for now, but could grow over time. Thus, the current situation could lead to higher slippage. This means that users may receive a less favourable price when making trades.

Zcash price fails to show an impressive hike

As THORChain continues to strengthen its connection with Zcash, community members remain largely optimistic about each related development. However, the latest launch of the ZEC liquidity pool failed to spark a major rally in the Zcash price.

As of press time, ZEC is trading at $1,386, with a marginal 0.38% surge in a day. Nonetheless, the token experienced a notable 76% increase over the past month, despite a 16% weekly decline.
