Key highlights:
- Justin Bons criticized Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson and stated that he should be removed from the project.
- The criticism comes as Hoskinson proposed to move governance discussions to Discord.
- Bons believes that it could affect the network’s decentralization values.
The Cardano ecosystem is now at the centre of one of its biggest governance debates in recent months. The controversy followed a recent criticism from Justin Bons, who publicly called for Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson’s removal from the network.
However, the criticism immediately drew backlash from ADA supporters. The community accused him of spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) during the network’s crucial governance evolution.
Charles Hoskinson should be removed from Cardano, says Justin Bons
The Cardano blockchain has been going through one of its crucial periods as founder Charles Hoskinson has put forward a proposal to move governance discussions to a moderated Discord server. But this proposal has sparked criticism from Justin Bons, the founder and CIO of Cyber Capital.
Bons, in an X post, stated that Charles Hoskinson’s move could reduce transparency. He added that it could restrict participation in the governance discussions to a small group of moderators. Citing these concerns, Bons criticized Charles Hoskinson, adding that he should be removed from the project.
According to Bons, governance discussions should be open and remain accessible to all community members. For him, it is essential to preserve decentralization and transparency in such conversations instead of being concentrated on a private platform.
It is worth noting that Bons views Charles Hoskinson’s proposal as a potential threat to Cardano’s decentralization. He added that Discord conversations could lead to filtering of certain viewpoints, giving greater influence to voices aligned with IOHK.
Further, Bons slammed Cardano’s progress on stability. He argued that Cardano has failed to exhibit some of the performance improvements as promised, stating, “IOHK failed to deliver; ADA’s max capacity is 23 TPS.”
However, Cardano supporters stated that governance discussions on X are often cluttered. There are repetitive arguments, misinformation, and unnecessary criticism. They believe that moving these talks to Discord could bring more effective outcomes.
Explaining Hoskinson’s Discord governance proposal
Notably, Charles Hoskinson intends to make Cardano’s governance process more organized and productive during the Voltaire era. While proposing to move governance discussions to Discord, he highlighted the success of Midnight’s Discord community.
He noted that such discussions on moderated platforms could help in focused conversations. It could also help Delegated Representatives (Dreps) evaluate proposals before on-chain voting, according to the Cardano founder.

In addition, Hoskinson stated that Cardano’s success doesn’t solely depend on ADA’s price performance or the blockchain technology. Instead, he believes that the greatest strength lies in the people behind the network, including developers, entrepreneurs, investors, and supporters.
Cardano community pushes back against Bons’ criticism
Interestingly, the viral criticism from Justin Bons sparked a heated debate as the Cardano community immediately reacted. Supporters accused him of spreading FUD. They urged him to offer suggestions or solutions during this critical time rather than simply attacking the ecosystem’s leadership.
Prominent figures like Cardano Constitutional Delegate CashAnvil rebuked Bons, stating that he spent years criticizing the network and contributing nothing meaningful. His statement read,
“Brother you do nothing to contribute to the Cardano ecosystem besides FUD. Do not try and dictate what ada holders ‘have’ to do lol, you sound just as moronic as the behavior you are calling out. Do better man, surely you can figure out something else for engagement.”
At the same time, some of the community members acknowledged Bons’ concerns. They suggested that neutral organizations could help moderate discussions more fairly.
