Key highlights:

  • Midnight Network will distribute 24 billion NIGHT tokens through a multi-phase airdrop called Glacier Drop
  • Eligible users held at least $100 in native tokens from eight major chains as of a June 11 snapshot
  • The airdrop includes phased claiming, proof-of-work-style redistribution, and a long-term recovery mechanism

Midnight Network, a privacy-focused blockchain project leveraging zero-knowledge smart contracts, has announced the “Glacier Drop”, a multi-phase airdrop campaign for distributing its native NIGHT token.

Who’s eligible for the Midnight airdrop?

The airdrop will allocate up to 100% of the network’s 24 billion NIGHT tokens to users across eight major blockchain ecosystems: CardanoBitcoin, EthereumSolana, Binance Chain, XRP, Avalanche, and Basic Attention Token. You can see more details on the official Midnight tokenomics website.

50% of the NIGHT token supply has been allocated to ADA holders. BTC holders will be able to claim 20% of the token supply, while the remaining 30% will be claimable by holders of the other projects supported by the airdrop.

The eligibility snapshot was taken on June 11, targeting wallets holding at least $100 in native assets from the specified chains. Claiming begins in July and unfolds in three distinct phases:

  • Claim phase (60 days): Eligible users can claim their full NIGHT allocation. Claimed tokens are initially locked in a redemption smart contract on Cardano and will unlock in 25% increments every 90 days over a total period of 360 days.
  • Scavenger Mine (30 days): Unclaimed tokens from the initial phase will be redistributed to participants who contribute computational power, in a mechanism resembling proof-of-work mining.
  • Lost-and-Found phase (4 years): Original claimants who missed the first window can recover a portion of their tokens through self-directed verification. Unclaimed tokens after four years will revert to the network’s on-chain treasury.

The airdrop structure is designed to reduce insider concentration and foster broader community participation. According to the project’s white paper, the NIGHT token will function as the network’s primary utility asset, while a secondary token, DUST, will be used to pay for transactions.

Midnight Network emphasizes “rational privacy,” allowing developers to selectively disclose data using zero-knowledge proofs. The network is currently live on testnet, with its mainnet expected to launch roughly 90 days after the Glacier Drop begins.

The Midnight project is developed by Input Ouput (IO), who are also the primary technical developers of the Cardano protocol. With this in mind, it’s not too surprising to see that ADA holders will receive the largest portion of the airdropped NIGHT token supply.
