The Algorand Foundation has appointed former Chainlink and Curv executive William Herkelrath as its new chief executive officer amid a push for greater institutional adoption. ALGO price reacted positively to the report, rising by nearly 2% within minutes of the announcement.

Algorand Foundation gets new CEO

According to an official announcement, Herkelrath has stepped into the role as Algorand Foundation’s CEO, succeeding Staci Warden, who led the foundation for five years.

Algorand Foundation noted that Herkelrath brings a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years to the entity. Before joining the foundation, Herkelrath held leadership roles at Chainlink and crypto custody firm Curv before co-founding K3 Labs, an AI automation platform.

“We’re thrilled to announce William Herkelrath as Algorand’s new CEO. William brings two decades of experience across AI, enterprise software, institutional finance, and blockchain infrastructure.”

Herkelrath will also join the Algorand Foundation’s board alongside Alex Fowler, chief strategy officer at Nexus Labs. Meanwhile, Rebecca Rettig and Michael Mosier are stepping down from the board as part of the reshuffle.

The ALGO price ticked upward on the heels of the board restructuring announcement. According to CoinCodex data, ALGO rose by nearly 2% to trade at $0.09976, continuing its strong streak over the last seven days.

On the seven-day chart, ALGO price is up 11%, while the 30-day chart reflects a near-20% price gain for the asset. ALGO’s run is mirroring the rally of the broader cryptocurrency market, with large-cap tokens notching impressive weekly gains.

Algorand targets institutional finance and quantum resistance

The board restructuring comes amid a frantic push by the Algorand Foundation to position the network for institutional adoption. Algorand is racing to corner market share from Ethereum and Solana as financial institutions turn to blockchain technology for tokenized assets and payments.

The Algorand Foundation said its refreshed board, introduced earlier this year, brings expertise spanning fintech, global policy, traditional finance and cybersecurity. Pundits say Herkelrath’s background at Chainlink and Curv is relevant in steering the Algorand Foundation toward competing with rival blockchains.

Meanwhile, Algorand has designated post-quantum security as a major part of its technology strategy. The network introduced quantum-resistant accounts via its v42 consensus upgrade, using the Falcon-1024 lattice-based signature system.

Since then, Algorand has reported over 1 million post-quantum transactions signed on its mainnet. In a statement, Herkelrath has also indicated that he intends to push quantum-resistant technology beyond an Algorand feature and toward a broader industry standard.
